Challenges Associated with Mathematics

Many students that we encounter through WiSHES Tutoring find that subjects requiring math are the most challenging academically. Challenges with math may be one or a combination of the following:
  • Math is cumulative and some students lack basic fundamental mathematical skills.
  • For some students math concepts are not intuitive, therefore they require work and dedication that students may not want to invest.
  • The time required for each student to completely comprehend a new topic varies. Frequently, students are required to move to a new concept before every student understands the previous one due to the amount of material that needs to be covered within the curriculum.

So, the challenge with math is often mental stamina rather than mental ability.

Because the learning curve for each program participant is not constant, our tutoring program includes homework assistance and additional academic activities to be completed in addition to weekly sessions. Q: How has the transportation to and/or from WiSHES Tutoring made our services more convenient for your family?
My child was transported after school to tutoring which as a working mother was extremely convenient. Otherwise, my child would have had to wait until I got off of work in order to start her tutoring session.
