What are Phonetic Sounds and why is this assessment important?
Why assess students in phonics? This is paramount importance for students that are learning to read. Phonics is a method of teaching reading by correlating sounds with letters or groups of letters in an alphabetical writing system.
There is a direct correlation between an understanding of phonics, reading effectively, and reading comprehension. The foundations of phonetics are the alphabet and connecting each letter to its corresponding sound. It has been stated that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn because phonetically many letters have different sounds and dissimilar words are pronounced the same (i.e. to, too, and two).
